WHO & WHAT:
In 2018 we’re going to grow 500 kilos of food for The Exchange food bank in Bolton. It has been a dream of ours to contribute to our community’s food security and equality since the farm was founded three years ago. Although we are still finding our footing as a business, we believe that we can fulfill this dream simultaneously via The Caledon 500!
With a fundraising goal of $2500, we aim to cover the costs to produce a whack of beets, butternut squash, carrots, and parsnips and use any leftover funds to employ a patron of The Exchange for a short term. The Exchange is a really terrific branch of Caledon Community Services and if you’ve never heard of them, head on over to their website and check out the inspiring work they’re doing.
HOW: There are several ways and to contribute and support The Caledon 500, be it through donation of time or money. The levels of involvement range from:
Financial donation on-farm, on-line (soon!) and at the Bolton Farmers Market
Volunteering to cultivate/harvest/deliver the crops
Volunteering with a fundraiser
Collecting donations from friends and family with a Donation Envelope
Starting your own fundraiser to support the project!
This is a fantastic opportunity to create cross-community connections with the folks who are involved with the farm in any way and the folks who use The Exchange- all centered around awesomely-grown food and beautiful countryside & farmland.
Did you know that 150 Caledon Families regularly use the food bank? How great would it be to facilitate their access to the delicious, healthy, and ecologically-grown veggies like those grown at MWF!
In addition to the intention of generating food-equality and interaction within our communities here in Caledon, The Caledon 500 is also an opportunity to spread the word about the CSA model and local food systems.
If you are interested in becoming involved with planning fundraisers it is also a chance to network and cross-promote your own passions and businesses. If you’re interested in discussing how to plug in to the project, would like to request a fundraising envelope, or just plain curious about the project please drop us a line!
